Andrew McFarlane’s sponsored walk

THE ROLE OF OUR VOLUNTEERS IS A SIGNIFICANT PART OF WHO AND WHAT WE ARE

Andrew McFarlane, a volunteer for Mid Suffolk Axis raised over £400.00 as part of a fundraising campaign for members of Axis.

Andrew wanted to embark on a sponsored walk as a surprise for the members of Mid Suffolk Axis so they can continue to enjoy the activities and excursions as part of the programme of events which are offered by the charity.

The 10-mile walk started at Needham Market and finished at Stowmarket Community Centre and took Andrew 2.30 hours from start to finish.   Andrew trained prior to the sponsored walk so he was in top condition to carry out the task on Friday 5th April 2019.   Andrew’s contribution is especially important as an active member of the team who has learning disabilities his commitment is valued as part of the volunteer force.

Andrew’s contribution will make a difference to our members who were surprised and grateful for all his hard work in raising funds for them.

Axis has been providing the service for over 30 years and we pride ourselves on the atmosphere of our club as a meeting place to enjoy each other’s company, friendship, laughter or simply a listening ear.  Offering a change of scene, excursions, arts and crafts, guest speakers, music and singing, exercise sessions, games and a two-course hot meal, we are dedicated to the wellbeing and enrichment of peoples lives who attend our club.

We have our own minibus so attending the sessions is easy, especially important if you are living with a disability as public transport can be problematic.

Meeting at Red Gables, Tuesday and Thursday, and Friday at Stowmarket Community Centre, from 9.30 am – 2.30 pm.
