Volunteer

Suffolk Axis welcomes new volunteers and friends. We currently have many volunteer roles available as follows:

Volunteer Drivers:

Volunteer drivers are required for our purpose-built minibus who would be willing to transport service-users to and from the sessions on a monthly or occasional basis. Drivers will need to have a clean, relevant driving license for the UK, and have MIDAS training or be willing to undertake this. The minibus seats up to 15 passengers or 5 wheelchair users so volunteers will need to be experienced and comfortable with a large vehicle.

Volunteer drivers who have access to a car and are willing to offer a few hours each week to transport someone to and from the weekly sessions are also needed. Travel expenses for this are covered by Suffolk Axis and drivers will need to have a clean, relevant driving license for the UK.

Volunteer Supporters:

Volunteer Supporters are needed for our daily/weekly sessions to support and assist service-users so they can participate in activities. You will need to enjoy assisting others with meals and refreshments as well. Our supporters often help with outings such as our planned trips to Sizewell or even a mystery tour! We would therefore be happy to talk to someone wanting to do just a few hours a week as there is flexibility in these roles. Its also a great opportunity to learn more about caring for people with a disability and increasing your disability awareness.

Volunteer Fundraisers:

Volunteer fundraisers are welcome to help us raise money for activities and outings and for the day service in general. This might be in a variety of ways such as preparing for an annual raffle, being sponsored for Axis, having a table-top sale, running a quiz night and much more. We are open to new ideas!

Volunteer Trustees:

As a charity Suffolk Axis is governed by its Executive Committee. We would welcome new trustees to join our existing committee and help shape the future of our work in Suffolk as we seek to grow. For those who are new to governance, general details on the responsibilities of trustees are available through the charity commission.

To find out more about joining us as a volunteer, please feel free to contact us for an informal discussion and/or for a volunteer application form. As our work is with adults at risk an enhanced DBS will be required for volunteer roles.
